"As the Andover Cataract and Laser Center van headed toward the center, I gazed out the window while my mind wandered in a million directions. Will this operation be a success? What if it isn't? What will it be like to be able to really see? How wonderful will it feel not to be dependent on coke-bottle glasses and contact lenses? Will I be able to leave the magnifying glass in the drawer instead of constantly dragging it out so I can see? . .
The staff at the center was great. They were friendly, knowledgeable and reassuring, and went out of their way to make me feel comfortable.
Following surgery on my right eye, I was filled with awe. On the ride home I marveled that my eye, which an hour ago could see very little, could now see! The trees had leaves, and were actually not just masses of green. I could actually see things before I was on top of them. Everything looked so different. I was totally amazed!
The following days office visit showed 20/30 vision in an eye that had 20/400 (legally blind) the day before. At the second follow-up visit vision had improved to 20/25 ... almost perfect!
Four weeks later found me back in the van on my way to the Center again. Following this operation my vision wasn't as clear as with the first eye, and remained clouded for the rest of the first day. However, the next morning, when I opened my eyes ...just like magic I COULD SEE EVERYTHING!
Dr. Horsley feels I will need light glasses at some point just for close work, but as of today I have not needed any glasses at all. My whole life has changed. I can see for the first time in my life. Things look so different.
Now, I not only stop to smell the roses, I stop to SEE them too!"
